My idea for this project was to combine the ideas for both projects presented in the MFA exhibition into one design. I did this by researching what both projects were about, with one being a food-oriented app and the other being a horror game revolving around trauma and bears. For my design, I included the images of a bear paw and a human hand reaching out towards food placed on a picnic table. The bear paw was meant to represent Vecchio’s game, Here There Be Bears along with the idea of trauma. The human hand represented Liu’s app, Snackpal as well as the concept of living a healthy lifestyle. For my series of 3 posters I decided to depict the progression of seasons to represent the idea of progressing through one’s own mental state while dealing with trauma. It can also be meant to represent the passage of time as one tries to commit to healthier lifestyle choices in general, mirroring Liu’s idea of using Snackpal to assist with diabetes management. The bear paw and the human hand having a picnic together shows the possibility to make amends with one’s trauma, and to find ways to manage it in order to live a healthier lifestyle. This was a possible commonality I saw between the two projects without actually having experienced them for myself, that there could be an overall theme of health whether it be mental or physical. For these reasons I found it important to include both the more relatable human aspect of the human hand and the metaphorical one of the bear paw. I chose for my animation to be a bit more lighthearted in nature to express the feeling of living with a healthier state of mind and body, and decided to have fun and animate the bear paw quickly snatching a piece of cheese only to retreat.
